Comedian Hans Kim has gone viral for a joke he made about Matthew Perry weeks after the Friends star’s death on October 28.

The comic, who has 50,000 followers on TikTok, posted a clip of his stand up routine to the video site.

In it, he tells a joke about Perry’s death, just weeks after the beloved TV star suffered an apparent drowning at his LA home.

Best known for playing Chandler Bing in the popular US sitcom, the entertainment world and beyond have poured out their sympathies online after Perry died aged 54.

While many have shared heartfelt tributes and messages of condolences – with the Friends cast only opening up about their grief days ago – one comedian has made a repulsive joke about the late legend.

Kim – who has opened for Joe Rogan and Tony Hinchcliffe, according to his website – said: ‘Sad to hear that the great Matthew Perry died alone in a hot tub. For a guy on a show called friends he could have used a couple.’

‘Who knew the opening credits were his cry for help,’ he continued, talking of the opening scene of the sitcom where the cast dance together in a water fountain.

Fans were outraged, as many echoed the sentiment of one user who wrote: ‘Too soon.’

Someone else asked: ‘This is suppose to be funny?’

‘I just watched a sad memorial video about him and scroll down to this 😭,’ wrote another, while someone else chimed in with: ‘This is DESPICABLE.’

Others thought Perry would have found the joke ‘funny’, while someone simply wrote: ‘How would Perry’s family feel about this if they watch it.’

Alongside his co-stars – Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow and David Schwimmer – Perry became one of Hollywood’s most recognisable faces, reportedly earning US$1million per episode at the height of the show’s fame.

In the midst of this success, Perry also struggled with addiction throughout his life, as he said in a 2016 interview that he did not remember filming three seasons of the show because he was a ‘little out of it at the time’.

Courteney, who played Perry’s on-screen wife Monica Geller, said in a loving tribute: ‘I am so grateful for every moment I had with you Matty and I miss you every day.’

Phoebe Buffay actress Lisa thanked Perry for making her laugh ‘so hard’.

‘Thank you for showing up at work when you weren’t well and then, being completely brilliant. Thank you for the best 10 years a person gets to have. Thank you for trusting me. Thank you for all I learned about GRACE and LOVE through knowing you,’ she said.

Jennifer Aniston posted a lengthy tribute, in which she said: ‘We loved him deeply. He was such a part of our DNA. We were always the 6 of us. This was a chosen family that forever changed the course of who we were and what our path was going to be.’

Matt LeBlanc said he would ‘never forget’ Perry, and recalled the times they spent together as some of the ‘greatest’ of his life.

David Schwimmer, who starred as Ross Geller, said: ‘Matty, Thank you for ten incredible years of laughter and creativity. I will never forget your impeccable comic timing and delivery.’

This is not the first time the comedian Kim has faced backlash over his jokes.

In a second video on his page, Kim made another repulsive joke about the Israel-Hamas war, which has claimed thousands of lives in recent weeks.

‘Horrible to hear what’s happening over there in Israel,’ he began. ‘Palestinians are being murdered, they’re being bombed. It’s a real Halal-ocaust over there.’

‘This guy is not funny wtf,’ commented one user, while another said: ‘My god this wasn’t funny at all.’
