Jon Hamm has spilled the beans on his upcoming stint in Fargo, revealing the truth about those pierced nipples.
The Mad Men actor is set to appear as sheriff Roy Tillman in season five of the FX drama – which premieres today – alongside Joe Keery, Juno Temple, Jennifer Jason Leigh and Lamorne Morris.
After delighting fans with his recent stint in the Morning Show, he stole focus in the brief trailer, and was seen relaxing in a hot tub while being interrogated by the police, with his pierced nipples well and truly on show.
However, it turns out that the 52-year-old, who recently tied the knot with his former co-star, didn’t go under the needle for the role – instead there was something a little weirder behind the scenes.
Speaking at a screening and panel, Entertainment Weekly reports that he shared the truth behind the North Dakota rancher’s accessories, explaining that there was actually a ‘nippleologist on hand’.
‘I had to have some very blue latex put on my nipples,’ he said, via the outlet.
‘Then they cast a resoundingly lifelike pair of nipples, which they then pierced and placed over my own nipples, and we shot said nipples,’ he said, via the outlet.
‘The crew doesn’t get enough credit, but there was a dedicated nippleologist.’
Side note: Imagine your job title simply being ‘Jon Hamm’s nippleologist.
While Juno was left baffled by the effort behind Jon’s piercings, showrunner Noah Hawley wasn’t that fussed by the jewelry, adding: ‘We all live in Tiger King America.’
Season five of Fargo will be set in North Dakota in 2019, and sees housewife Dorothy ‘Dot’ Lyon (Juno) thrown back into a life she ‘thought she left behind’.
She unwittingly raises eyebrows with the police after a bizarre kidnapping, leading to explosive drama, tensions and intrigue.
Noah has since teased that we’ll be getting more seasons after the new episodes debut, revealing that he has been having a whale of a time on set.
‘I’d be lying if I said this is not the most fun I have in my year making this show,’ he told Deadline. ‘I haven’t run out of ways to tell these stories.
‘Why wouldn’t I keep going?’
Bring it on!
Season five of Fargo premieres on FX at 10pm ET.
