A top streamer has been forced to change the pricing at her new snack company, after she had to apologise for a ‘joke’ against one of her fans.
Popular variety streamer Pokimane has had a difficult weekend, after first laying into a viewer who complained about the pricing of cookies produced by her new snack company, and then trying to clean up the mess on Twitter with an apology.
Pokimane recently launched snack company Myna, which sells customisable cookies with a healthy twist. This is a sizeable contrast to Amouranth’s business venture, where she’s producing her very own vaginal yeast beer.
However, Pokimane’s cookies caused almost as much controversy when they came under scrutiny during a recent stream, when a viewer called $28 (£22) for a selection of four bags too expensive.
‘Oh my god, $28 dollars,’ she said mockingly, before explaining the pricing.
‘It’s four bags, that’s $7 (£5.50) a bag. I know math is hard when you an idiot, but if you’re a broke boy just say so.’
In fairness, her tone of voice does make it sound like a (not so good) joke, although it still seems a bad look considering that $28 is probably far more inconsequential to Pokimane than it is most of her viewers.
Unsurprisingly, her joke didn’t go down well and two days later she apologised on Twitter and said the company would reconsider their pricing.
A recent CNBC survey showed that 62% of Americans live paycheck to paycheck, but that certainly doesn’t include Pokimane.
Many streamers and influencers end up investing in outside business opportunities and for some reason it’s almost always food or drink related. There’s MrBeast’s burgers and Feastables, of course, but KSI and Logan Paul also launched their own energy drink called Prime.
