However, since that time, he’s also been involved in a decades-long feud with the Material Girl singer, 65.
It was previously reported he called her a ‘hideous, horrible human being with no redeeming qualities’.
It was also claimed that he said ‘comparing Madonna with Marilyn Monroe’ was the same as ‘comparing Raquel Welch with the back of a bus.’
Despite Madonna never appearing to have publicly commented on their fall-out, Boy George has again weighed in and made his opinion on the matter known.
In an interview on Heart Breakfast with Jamie Theakston and Amanda Holden this week, he said their friendship was ‘over’ and it was ‘too late’ to reconcile.
‘I think that, you know, of course, we’re all sort of very selective about what we remember. People remember things as they want to, and as long as you do it with a sense of humour,’ he said.
‘Like me and Madonna are never gonna be mates it’s over it’s too late.
‘So, I’m just gonna say what I think of her…what everybody says anyway.’
When asked if he was worried about Madonna might say when she found out, he replied: ‘No, I hope she writes something about me, but she wouldn’t.’
During an interview on Andy Cohen’s Watch What Happens Live in 2021, Boy George explained that he ‘never really fell out’ with the Vogue mega star.
‘It was like a series of incidents where we kind of just never managed to get close,’ he said.
‘We had an unconscious uncoupling without any decision from either of us, but I’ve always been a massive fan.’
But addressing his beef with Madonna on another occasion, Boy George once told the Huffington Post: ‘I’ve said awful things about Madonna and I’m not proud of that at all — I’m really not proud of that because I didn’t know her.’
However, he again took a swipe at her in October this year when accusing Madonna of ignoring him backstage during one of her gigs at the O2.
Posting on X, formerly Twitter, he wrote: ‘Everyone has asked, not unsurprisingly, did Madonna say hi since I was backstage, and the answer is no.’
However, he went on to share he had a ‘gorgeous night’ at the ‘excellent’ concert.
